Final Project "A Clean Bathroom"
Continued
For this blog post I am still working on getting my kids to keep their bathroom clean on a regular basis. In my previous post I talked about my first two attempts that did not produce the results that I wanted. For this post I will talk about my last attempt, that seems to be working so far.
For my last attempt I revisited my previous attempts to try and figure out why they didn't work. I came up with a list of things that I thought I could of done different, so that I can use them for this time around. To the right you will find some things I came up with.

Before I presented my idea to my kids I came up with a chart to track who was doing their tasks and who wasn't. I also came up with a short term reward, which was earning a desert for completing all their tasks for the day. I also came up with a long term reward for the total tasks completed for the week, this was earning time to play video games. To the left you can see how this chart looked.

To the right you can see the conclusion of the first week. So far it is working well, I still have to ask them to make sure the bathroom is clean but not every day. There were a couple of days that they did not complete all the tasks that they were supposed to do, and I notice that it was either cleaning the toilet or the sink. These two tasks are the harder tasks to do but all the tasks counted for the same amount of time. This may of been a mistake on my part, but I won't admit that.
I implanted a monthly reward to encourage them to keep the bathroom clean without being told to clean it. I decided that if they can clean with out being told to for 80% of the days each month, then they can pick somewhere for the family to go, for example a trampoline park, the movies, or even cliffs this summer.
I know it has only been two weeks with this new attempt, but so far it is working out pretty well. It is too early to call this a complete success, but it has helped this issue tremendously. More often then not, in the second week of this trial my kids came to me to ask if I had seen how clean the bathroom was. I see this as them taking pride in what they are doing, which is awesome. This will be an ongoing project for my self and the kids, so I know I will still have to tweak things here and there. I hope to include their bedrooms and eventually the rest of the house.
