Hair Bleach and Dye
For my second creativity blog I attempted to style my two boys hair for their state tournament this weekend. I asked them what they wanted to do, and the decided that they wanted to cut their hair into mohawks, and color their hair. This project is unfamiliar to me, and I was nervous to do it, because I didn't want them to look funny.
Here are the materials and tools that I decided that I would need. The materials that I bought was Quick White hair bleach, Solon Care 30 developer, and Manic Panic hair Dye. The tools are a brush, mixing bowl, and clippers. The other two things that are not included in the pictures are latex gloves and a towel. |
Once I got everything that I needed, I started this process by cutting their hair. I have tried doing this before but had no success. This step was the most frustrating for me because it was hard to get the mohawk symmetrical on both sides. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of this step, but you will see what it looked like in the following steps.
The next step was to begin the bleaching process. I learned that the darker the hair was the longer you have to leave the bleach, or the more time you have to repeat the process. Below is a picture of my older son with the bleach in his hair
After the the bleaching was completed I applied the blue dye. We were trying to get his hair as close to electric blue as we could because he wrestles for the Sue Cleveland jr. wrestling team. I attempted this by first bleaching it to strip his natural hair color away so that the blue dye would turn out better.
So I feel that both of my kids hair turned out pretty good. I think that a few things that hindered my creativity process was my lack of hair cutting experience and my kids ability to sit still for long periods of time. If my youngest son would of allowed me to apply the bleach a second time then his hair would of turned out less of an orangish color. One thing that I would of changed about the mohawks would be the thickness, I believe that it might look better if they were a little bit thinner. Over all I am happy with the end product and I plan on doing this several more times in the future.
